FIRE BRIGADE BALL.

The constant night and day duty of the Christchurch tire Brigade was happily broken last evening by the holding of its annual ball in the Inchfield Fire Station. Needless to say, the event was a -pronounced success in every way. Mr Bert. Will yams’s The committee in charge of the arra ngemen ts, com pr isin g Su perin tondent Warner and his associates, deserve great credit for their efforts. The station social-room upstairs was used for dancing, and it presented a cheerful appearance. being most effectively decorated ‘ with red and‘yellow streamers. Bunches of wattle, flowers arid leaves were also suspended from the : ceiling. A very enjoyable supper was 1 served in the engine house, where the I tables were artistically bedecked with I flowers and pot plants. About eighty I couples were on the floor. Amongst those present were Mr A. Williams (chairman of the board), Air and Mrs Holland, and many representatives from local brigades, including 'Superintendent Bamberry (Railway), Heart (Addington Workshops), Tyler (Rangiora) and tlio Sumner, Lyttelton and Now Brighton Brigades. Firemen O. Parrv and G. Barnes carried out the duties of M.C. in a capable manner. During the supper interval Super- | intendent Warner called upon Mr WilI liams to present, the service medals and ! bars to the following members of tho brigade: Auxiliary Fireman H. Henry, two years Service bar, making in all eleven years service; First-class Fireman B. Turner, five years service medal and bar, making eight years service, four of which were spent at the front; Senior Fireman J. Noblett, five years service ; . Senior Fireman O. J. Parrv, two years bar, making nine years service; Senior Fireman C. R. Brooks, five years service medal and j bar, making eight years service; Superintendent Warner, two years service bar, making twontv vears permanent service in the Dominion. Mr- H. Holland, a member of the board, also addressed the gathering. Amongst those present were Mrs C. C. Warner, who wore- a smart frock of black satin and georgette, embroidered with designs of orange beads; Mrs C. Blake, pretty frock of floral silk i voile; Mrs 11. Holland, black taffeta ! and georgette ; Mrs O. J. Parry, dainty j frock of apricot satin and georgette; ! Mrs Barnes, black velvet, trimmed | with silk net ; Mrs P. heliotrope georgette, with an overdress of silk net flounces of the same shade, and caught at the- waist with a silver rose; Miss Iris Rudd, handsome frock of flame coloured crepe de chine, relieved with black ninon; Miss Grace Hazard lopked charming in a sweet frock of floral silk voile; Miss Eva Moody, dainty frock of sea blue ninon, relieved with rose-bud trimming; Miss Kathleen Glassou, dainty frock of white taffeta; Miss Rima.r Stokes, dainty frock of powder blue georgette, trimmed with pleated net ; and "Miss Wester bury, black accordion pleated dress, trimmed with gold.
