LICENSED VICTUALLERS' ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL BALL. Not since 1914 have the. members of the Licensed Victuallers’ Association held a ball, but there was compensation for the long interval in tho success of last evening’s function in the Art Gallery. Invitations were limited to two hundred and fifty, so that the ballroom was not over-crowded. The arrangementb were in the hands of a big representative committee, who saw to tho comfort and enjoyment of the guests. The frocks of the women were very smart, and the blacjt walls, panelled with yellow, showed them to advantage. Overhead interlaced festoons -of black and yellow added colour to the scene. In the permanent, gallery and in the supper room daffodils and greenery were user! for decorations. The music, which was supplied by Miss Macdonald’s hand, was very bright, and included several new fox trot “ hits.” A sit-down supper of poultry, salads and sweets was served at small tables, each of which was decorated with daffodils and coloured bon-bons. Edmonds, lemon chiffon taffeta, frock mack with .a three-tiered skirt. Miss O’Malley, smart black panne velvet freak and touches of henna. Miss Vera Thompson, cerise cTiarmeuso veiled in grape-coloured ninon. Mrs E. M. Slieody, roval blue satin embi oidered in jewelled motifs, the corsage being relieved with cerise velvet. Mrs A. Res. pale pink crepe dc chine with an overdress of snangled net. Mrs IT. D. M’Hugh (Oamarul. handsome black char mouse frock with gold lace sleeves ' and a ride flower «t corsage. 'Mrs E. Bosworth. kingfisher blue satin, -with sa.rmhire and jet sequinned corsage. Miss Boswoiflh, jade green taffeta, with a. gold tissue rose on the corsage. • Mrs A.. Ba-ttray. black georgette '’eiling, pari pin k satin, heavily encrusted with gold. Mrs K. E. Thomson, brick silk net silk, the corsage being of fine gold lace. Miss T. Thompson, very dainty Cameo pink ninon frock with a silver rice girdle. Miss Tna Smith, vale mauve georgette frock, with a. swathed belt of satin. Miss C. Aitken. smart frock of iade green net over silk, with a wide corslet bodice of steel and green tissue. Miss Maisie Fbriv, cream crepe de chine, with buttercup, yellow belt. Miss M. Macdonald, prettv cerise net frock over a silk foundatoin, the belt being of silver tissue.

Beftle, stylish frock of black sou pie satin, with henna velvet flowers on the panels of the skirt and on the corsage. Mrs T. G. Fox, effective frock of brick net and gold brocade, the accordion pleated skirt being veiled in net. Mrs W. IT. Harris, mauve and gold tissue frock, panelled with emerald green. Mrs G. T. Bullock, pale pink georgette, effectively embroidered wth black and silver beads in spiderweb design.. Mrs J. B. Franks, black georgette frock, embroidered with gold beads. Miss M’Corroack, white lace frilled frock, relieved wtih lime-coloured posies and satin. Mias Lydia Game, charming frock of nattier blue crepe do chine, made with a plain corsage, and panniered skirt, a fine gold tissue girdle outlining the waist. Mrs F. Drewitt, handsome gown of black cvepo d.e chine and georgette, encrusted with iridescent seouins. Mrs TT. Drewitt, dark red satin frock, draped with black ric-c and .jet. Miss Gorrie, black corded silk with old gold satin panels and touches of jet on tho cor- age. Miss Whitmore, turquoise satin charraeuse, draued frock with a pink flower girdle. Miss Lottv Whitmore, dainty pastel pink frilled georgette frock with a. satin corsago and French flowers.
