They won the toss and went to the wicket., and at- the close of the day had made 331 in their first innings. Tho Somerset team is—Daniel, Macßryan, Johnson, Itippon, Considine, Lowry, Wharton, Robson, White, Bridges and Lyon. The weather was fine and the wicket excellent. 'lhe attendance numbered 6000. Th Australian innings was rutlier onesided, as Collins was responsible for 101 and Ryder for 124. Bridges took the bowling honours, securing five wickets. A feature of the innings was that not a single sundry was recorded, and the fielding throughout "Was of a high quality. Collins and Mayn© opened to Bridges and Robson, the Jotter a veteran of fiftv-one. Mayne, at thirteen, was Bridges' first victim, being beaten by an off break which bowled him off his pads. Numerous bowling changes were fried, the bowlers being tired before a separation was effected by Collins being dismissed by a full toss on to his foot. He batted for three hours and hit twelve 4’s. This was one of his lucky innings, for he gave three chances. Th© next (wo wickets added nothing, but when Armstrong joined Ryder there was some vigorous scoring. Ryder obtained his century in 163 minutes, just before 300 appeared. After Lowry had bowled Armstrong, although M’Donald smote Robson for a- sixer, the innings quickly ended, Ryder being not out.
