THE RACING COMMISSION.
DR THACKER PROTESTS.
I>r Thacker, M.P.. has sent the following telegram to the Minister of Internal Affairs :
“ Having studied the report of the Racing Commission—(l) let me resent the publication of the Commission’s findings before they were given to Parliament and members; (2) the Prime Minister assured the House when the stonewall was threatened that no changes would be made until the House met, and that no shuffling of permits was provided for; (3) the recommendations of the Commission involve most important principles of public policy which Parliament alone can handle ; (4) it is the prerogative of Parliament only to deal with the findings of the Commission; no Ministry is competent, nor has any right, to ignore Parliament, its members, or public opinion; (5) population, that is the people, must be the basis on which to decide th© number of permits, not wealth or autocratic representation. Accept this as my formal protest against your attempt to encroach on the rights of democracy/'
