ENGINEERS ACT.
SURVEYORS ANXIOUS RE CONTEXT. (Per Presb Association.} WELLINGTON, August 5. A deputation from the Surveyors’ Institute waited on the Acting-Premier seeking assurance that the Engineers’ Act urged by the New Zealand Institute of Civil Engineers would contain nothing detrimental to surveyors who do a certain amount of engineering in connection with roads, small bridges and watercourses. If passed the Act might contain provisions preventing them from doing this class of work. Sir Francis Bell replied that nothing was yet decided regarding the provisions of the Bill, or whether it was introduced by the Government or supported by it, if introduced by a private member. The Government had no information on the point asked by th© deputation to be settled. He suggested, therefore, that each organisation should appoint a committee to discuss matters and arrive at a common ground of agreement. The deputation accepted the suggestion.
