RETURNED SOLDIERS’ ASSOCIATION.
FANCY DRESS BALL. The Art Gallery presented a fray and animated scene, the occasion being the annual fancy dress hall held by the Returned Soldiers’ Association. Each year the wide dissimilitude of costumes grows greater, and last night one could see represented many very original ana unique characters. The hall opened with a grand inarch in which ill-assort-ed couples marched together, hi some instances causing much merriment. Miss Macdonald's orchestra was exceptionally good, and the music completely in accord with the spirit of the daucc. The,members of the committee were Messrs E. Burnside, Ilobertsnn, M. C. "Watson, J. Hanna, Manhire, Campbell and Penl ugton, the last-named being the honorary secretary. They were assisted by Mrs Tomlinson and Miss AT‘Arthur. Amongst those present were .Mrs It. It. Smith, Airs H. Holland, Mrs -1. S. Kelly, all of whom wore evening Those iu fancy dress included Mrs Orchard (Carmen), Airs Beanland (Pierrette), Mrs Web ley (Ragtime), Mrs Penlmgton (Feathered Fancy).
