DIED FROM PERITONITIS, Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received August 3, 11 a.m.) ROME, August 2. Signor Caruso died at four o’clock, suffering from acute peritonitis.
(Enrico Caruso was born at Naples on February 25, 1573. He received no special musical education, but his rapid rise to fame soon established his reputation as one of tho world’s greatest tenors. During a recent visit to America he suffered from ill-health. A fall down a flight of steps caused him some injury, and later he burst a blood vessel in his throat. He retired from his engagements, and returned to his nativo land. His wife is an American.)
