WAIKARI COLLIE CLUB.

MEETING AND SOCIAL, A meeting of the Waikari Collie Club, followed by a smoke concert, took place in the Haward«n Hail on baturciav* evening, when there waa a very good attendance. It waa decided that as the ciul> was probably the oldest ot its kind in New Zealand, an anniversary meeting should oe held next year, with increased stakes, and to elect a committee, at a meeting to be heid later, to put every hing in working and make arrangement*. At the Bocitu the following toasts were honoured:—“The Xing," “Army and Navy," " Returned Soldiers," * Waikari Collie Club,” "The President,” and " Donors of Prizes,” m Mr H. M. Anderson " (who gave the use •f his grounds for a number of years), 44 Mr James Douglas ” (who supplied' the sheep for the last trials), “ Successful Competitors,” Unsuccessful Competitors," 44 Pioneers of Jh© Club," “ Mr H. T. Little ’ (who generously returned the prize money won by him »t the last meeting), and 44 The Secretary.” The toasts were responded to by different members, interspersed with songs given by Messrs P. Ballantyne, W. Earl and F. Wright; recitations bv Mr H. Chambers; •od anecdotes by Mr H. T. Little. Mi H. T. Little, in responding to the toast of the “Pioneers of the Club,” stated that "nothing gave him more pleasure than in calling to mind the first trials that were held over thirty years ago, in the Weka, Pass. There wero three ludges on that occasion, and the man that won the yarding event only penned one sheep out of the three ; nevertheless, his dog was considered to bo the best, as the others did not pen any. The following year the standard of dog trials was set by the late Mr W. O. Rutherford, who was one of the three iudges appointed, and who in after years proved to be one of the betrt judges in New Zealand. From that day the ciub had never looked back, and lie was Very pleased tba* next year the club intended holding an anniversary meeting. The president (Mr A. Kennedy), in presenting the cups won at the last trials, said it gave him much pleasure to have to prevsent them to two of the bent supporters the had hod, namely, Mr H. T. Little and Mr M. B ITorres + er. Ho especially comnlijnented Mr Forrester, who had been at the Var and had come back and got dogs together good enough to win at any trials. A most enjoyable evening came to a closo irith the singing of “ Anld Lang Syne.”
