WATERSIDE TROUBLE.
USE OF BURTON BLOCK. TPer Press Association.! WELLINGTON, July 5. Trouble developed to-day in connection with the unloading of the Scales barque Rona, which had a narrow escape when she ran on the Pinnacle Rocks while entering the harbour last Sunday week and was subsequently re--moved to Miramar, where her coal cargo was to be discharged. The dispute which now has arisen concerns the use of the Burton block, an unloading device which lias figured in wharf disputes for a long time. The men engag-r ed had ceased work and Mr V . H. G. Bennett, manager of the Co-operative Employment Association, Mr T. Glover, president, and Mr J. Laurenson, acting secretary of the Waterside Workers’ Union, went out to Miramar in order to investigate the grievance. It is understood that the men have agreed to work the Rona under protest, as the vessel has to go on the slip on a certain date.
