CORN PRODUCTION.

ABOLISHING THE SUBSIDY IN BRITAIN., WHAT GUARANTEE AIIGHT COST. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association LONDON, July 5. In the House of Commons there was a long and interesting debate on the Corn Production Act Repeal Bili. Sir Robert Horne urged that the cost might be £30.000,000 in the next four years. Nobodv anticipated such an extraordinary drop in the prices of agricultural products. The country’s finances could not face such a subsidv. At present prices the guarantee would cost £12,000,000 but prices were likely to go much lower. The loss might easily be £32,000,000 on this year’s crops alone. Under the circumstances the Government had done well to compound this year’s payments at £19,000.000.
