A DEGRADING AFFAIR.
TO THE EDITOR Sir,—Your condemnation of the degrading affair at Jersey City strucii an answering chord in many breasts. It was a prizo fight pure and simple, fought with the brutality which has ever distinguished this “ sport.” What benefit can boxing receive from such an advertisement? The fact is that prize fighting is on its last leg;s, and will soon be 11 called in” in civilised countries. In America these contests arc illegal in many of the States, and Dempsey’s backers had to search hard before they could get any place to receive them. Jersev City has been presented with a doubtful advertisement , end the whole world with a revelation of a brutal and debasing “ sport,' which is worse than bull fighting or bear baiting. The trail of the ’‘almighty dollar ” is plain to all who have eyes to see.—l am, etc., CLEAN SPORT.
