CIVIL SERVANTS SENTENCED. fp»*. Press Amochatton.l WELLINGTON, June 17. David Erol Sutherland, formerly employed in the Defence Department, appeared in the Supreme Court for sentence, having pleaded guilty to stealing a sum of money totalling JEICO. General Richardson said the officer had a splendid record in the Expeditionary Force, and was chosen for leadership on account, of his character, general ability and capacity, tie was a worthy man, and a good husband. He had been wounded and gassed.
Frank Finery, another young man also stood in tlie dock beside Sutherland. He had pleaded guilty to embezzlement of sums totalling £9O, from the Official Assignee’s office.
The Judge expressed regret at seeing a man with the record of Sutherland before him on such a charge. The prisoner had been guilty of a grave breach of trust. His Honor sentenced each of the prisoners to six months’ imprisonment.
