BRITISH RAILWAYS,
GOVERNMENTS PROPOSAL. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received May 4, 1-40 p.m.) LONDON, May 3. Sir Erie Geodes, Minister of Transport. announced that when control ended the Government had agreed to give the railways £60,000,000 in complete satisfaction of all claims. Of the amount £9,000,000 was returnable in income tax. Ireland would be dealt with separately. He strongly recommended a settlement, otherwise litigation might go on for years.
