WATERSIDE DISPUTE.

LYTTELTON RUMOURS. ' lc was rumoured at Lyttelton this afternoon that the watersiders would refuse to work overtime this evening. Inquiries made from the secretary elicited no information, Air Flood stating that he knew nothing. Information obtained from another source was to the effect that the men would not work overtime on two vessels. It is considered probable that if the men refuse to work overtime, vessels arriving in port from to-morrow will not commence discharging, but that the vessels now in port will complete their loading and discharging The Union Company were not aware at 2 p.m. of the men's change of front, as the hour to approach the men to work overtime is 3 p.m. LITTLE ACTIVITY IN WELLINGTON. (Special to the £8 Star.”) WELLINGTON. March 3. The almost deserted wharves and the drizzling rain make the appearance of the waterfront particularly dismal today. Except for the limited activity on'the ferry sten.ers. the only work in progress is on the Gisborne Sheepfnririers’ Company’s steamer Admiral Codrington, which is discharging a cargo of Australian hardwood. Apparently no demand for guaranteed adherence to the agreement was made ns a preliminary io the engagement of labour. About. 100 members of the Watersiders’ Union are being employed this morning. FEDERATION STILL SILENT. rPsit Press Association.J WELLINGTON. March 3. The Waterside W orkers’ Federation lias not yet replied to the employers, and there is no indication as to when the reply will be available. Labour was engaged this morning for the purpose of unloading Australian timber from the Admiral Codrington, but the Harbour Board cranes were not available.
