PROGRESS LEAGUE.

A meeting of the executive of the Canterbury Progress League was held last evening, the president, Mr A- G. Henderson, in the chair. The treasurer (Mr J. A. Flesher) reported that receipts during the past month amounted to £352 and expenditure to .£223. The cash balance was £l2B, and contributions still to come in amounted to £378. That meant that there was roughly up to £SOO to carry on with during March, and the league should end the year with a credit balance of something like £370. The league began the year with a credit of about £7OO. so its expenditure had exceeded income by about £3OO. The Railway Department wrote, stating that plans were being prepared for increased accommodation at the Hokitika railway station. It was decided that the Government should be invited to send I>r C. E. Adams, Government astronomer, to inspect Hie proposed site' on Banks Peninsula for an observatory. The president welcomed Captain Drvsdale. representative in New Zealand of the Moving Picture Exhibition of British Industries, Ltd. The executive agreed to take further i steps towards securing subsidies for j travelling libraries. The next meeting will be held on June (j in the afternoon.
