RAILWAY TINKERING.

TO THE EDTTOR. Sir.—There seems to be a general chortle of satisfaction because the Railway Department has erected a new goods shed near Carlyle Street. Is tlie satisfaction at all justified? The extra storage space will be a godsend from on© point of view, but any benefit will be nullified through tho additional pressure put on an already cramped shunting yard. Tinkering with the business will not prevent congestion. Why does not the Department go forward intelligently and construct up-to-date sheds anti yard;} on the land specially acquired for the purpose at Middleton? T am, etc., LOOK AHEAD.
