DIVORCE MADE EASY.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir. Your correspondent “ Ignorant ” is apparently in favour of easy divorce laws, and he cannot see that society will be harmed if marriage is not made a hard and fast contract. He contends that if five years’ separ ation is sufficient grounds, then three years should be sufficient. Carried to the ultimate, his argument could be used in support of a week’s separation being a sufficient ground for divorce. We would speedily arrive at a state of affairs in which husband and wife could secure their divorce by simply giving noi ice of their intention not to live together. Facile divorce laws lead to promiscuity, and that is why iho law usually makes tho path to divorce a more or less difficult one. A couple who cannot live together should not be too readily set free to try further marital experiments. The new law will swell tho divorce records of our courts, and tho cumulative effect will be unfortunate. -1 am. etc . CHURCHMAN.
