AKAROA MATERNITY HOSPITAL.
LAND TO BE BOUGHT. The question was asked by Mr G. Armstrong at the Hospital Board today whether, if the residents of Akaroa raised £SOO for the purchase of two acres and a half of land for a maternity hospital, the hoard would apply for the Government subsidy of 245, so that the land could he bought. He said that the site was the best one available, and he was afraid that it might be sold. A building could be erected when prices were lower. Ihe chairman asked what the cost of the land would be. Mr Armstrong said that it would he about £IOOO. Originally, the intention was that Akaroa should find £IOOO as its contribution for land and buildings. ft was resolved that conditionallv on Akaroa providing £SOO, the board would apply for a subsidy. Mr F. Horrell said that it should be quite understood that £SOO would not be the limit of Akaroa’s contribution.
