FERRY TRAIN.
TWO HOURS' DEL-AY, MISHAP TO ENGINE. A delay of nearly two hours was caused to last evening's i',lß terry boattrain from Uiiristcliuroh to Lyttelton, owing to one of the driving rods ot the engiue breaking. The misbiiap occurred when tine train was about a quarter of a uiilo on the town fcide from Heathcote station. As •nothdng could, be done in the way of repairs there , the train had to be at a standstill until an engine was scut from Lyttelton. This was a light engine, which found it difficult to pull the heavy train, and progress to the port was very slow-, the wharf being reached at 9.20 p.m. Meanwhile the waterside workers’ picnic train was held up at Woolston, the 8.15 p.m. passenger train from Christchurch was detained at Opawa, and the second express at Christchurch. Eventually each of these resumed its journey, the second express arriving at the port at a few' minutes before 10 p.m. Tiie ferry steamer Maori was kept back and did not leave for Wellington till 10.15 p.m. The train service from Lyttelton for the two hours had to be quite suspended.
