Terrific earthquake shocks destroyed many towns along fho Argentine slopes of the Audes Mountains.; '■ Over one hundred ancl fifty bodies have been recovered so far, but the death-roll is expected to be appalling. Nearly a hundred perished at Tres Portonas, and thirty at Oosta De Araujo. Not, a house was left standing in La Valle and La Central. Particularly strong shocks were felt again on Saturday. The towns of San Martin and Rivadavia and the city of Mendoza were badly sunken, but undamaged. ! '■ This is the worst catastrophe since 1869.
