/ISHEUHTON CASE. RAILWAY GUARDS CONVICTED. SENTENCED TO TWELVE ' MONTHS. [Per Press Association.] ASHBURTON, October 29, FolloAving the sensational arrest a week ago of two railway guards, Charles Alexander Travis and John George Murray, from whoso houses express loads of allegedly stolen goods uere removed after a search, a series of charges was brought against each today before Mr Mosley, S.M. Travis was charged with the theft irom the Railway department of a parcel of boots, a quantity of-camisoles, lour overcoats, a box of raisins, a parcel of sAveaters, a sack of sugar, a box of tea, two tennis racquets, and boxes of paints, of a total value of £4B Murray was charged with the theft of a box of J eyes’ Hu id, a quantuy of drapery, clothing samples, ladies clothing, a box of tea, a roll of wmseyette, two bags of sugar, and a box £ 0f condensed milk, of a total value M Tl \ e , y ' v<;ro c^ar Sed conjointly with the theft of a box of butter, men’s clothing,' a roll of tiA'eecl, a piece of tl “nnel, two pennds of wool, nine tins of biscuits, and a quantity of clothing, of a total value of £SO 17s. Ihe dates of the alleged thefts over the last twelve months. The accused, ivho pleaded guilty to a I the charges, except that Murray pleaded not guilty to the theft of J eyes’ timd, Ave s sent meed to tAvelve months’ hard labour each, on the single charges, and to varying terms on the other charges, the sentences to run concurrently.
