PAPARTJA CLUB. Tho official opening of the Paparua Tennh Club s season, postponed from ihe previoml Saturday, took plate on Saturday afternoon, under ideal weather conditions. There was a largo number of players, and despite tba fact that many of the city and suburban, clubs wero also holding their opening functions at the same time, several representatives were present from the city. Mr ]?. Richards (secretary of tho club) welcomed the visitors; and tho president (Mr J. Leslie) declared the season open. In dbing so, Ur Leslie thanked all visiting players and friends for attending, and hoped they would thoroughly enjoy the afternoon’s outing. In reviewing the activities of the club during th»! ps*st season, lio congratulated t?io meinbws on their successes, and hoped they would even exceed them during ihe coining year. Three hearty cheers wero then given for visiting players. Afternoon tea waa supplied by the ladies of the club, and (friendly games wore arranged, the courts being fully occupied fot tho afternoon. Although heavy rain fell during the early part of the morning, tin ■ grounds wero quite dried up by tho forenoon, and the courts were in excellent playing or* dor. MATCH AT AKAROA. On Saturday, at Akaroa, the Domain Ten* ms Club defeated Little River by 77 gomes to 66. Tho match was one in tho first round of the Peninsula competition.
