SPORT BODIES.

PROPOSAL TO FORM ASSOCIATION. A suggestion that sports bodies should form an association for tha purpose of bettering placing conditions in respect of sports grounds was made and supported by several speakers at the Canterbury Football Association's annual smoke concert on Saturday evening. The suggestion was made by, Mr R. English, president of the association, when replying to tho toast of “ The President and Esecnii. Ve ‘' n slish said that it was up to * i r aym ' s a ' ce their friends,to the matches. as ho was sure there were numbers of young fellows who would become players if encouraged. Tho game was not advertised sufficiently, and he wanted the players ’ ° r oop well together and push the game ahead. He thought all sports bodies should I*l* , together, and work in the interests of athletics generally. The winter sporte bodies, certainly, should approach the Domain Board as tome of the grounds at Hagley Park needed improvement. Later in the evening, Mr E. Hooper, representing the Rugby League, said that ho wanted to seo all grounds open to sport, irrespective of tho variouo branches of snort, and all bodies working for tho benefit of sport generally. ~ r _9‘ Allard, as a representative of the Cricket Asso<"ation, said that public bodies did not give sport a fair deal. Ho believed the proposed association would ba beneficial. Mr Henry Holland, who was invited L> the chairman to speak, said that misunderstamnngs might have arisen between the City Council and sporting bodies, but he know that tho council were entirely in sympathy with sport. While the players were at the front, the council had kept the grounds for them, and had reduced tho juniors’ fees by half_to enable them to carry on on their own. The Domains Board, as a matter of ..act, had spent a large sum in having land in tho Park drained. .
