THEATRE ROYAL TO-NIGHT,

Tliis evening J. 0. Williamson, Ltd., will present tho eminent magician, Carter Tho Great, at the Theatre Royal. _ Much interest is being manifested in the appearance of this artist and his company, which is recognised as the biggest organisation of its kind now_ travelling. Magic has ever had a fascination for young and old, and this big magic show created a wonderful impression throughout Australia, The tour of the Commonwealth which has just been completed is conceded to he one of the'greatest successes in the annals of the firm. For the past few days a staff of mechanics have been working at tho Theatre Royal fitting uptlie intricate mechanism which is required for the big illusions, and a full rehearsal took place this afternoon, so that everything will work smoothly tp-night. “ Baby,” tho huge Nubian lion, created much interest in his arrival at Lyttelton yesterday, and this fine animal will he seen in , the spectacular Eastern romance, “The Lion’s Bride,” described as the most daring and thrilling illusion ever staged. This evening’s programme wall include ‘‘A Night With the Orientals,” “ Tho Crystal Casket,” ‘'Tho Mysterious Bowl,” ‘‘The Astral Hand,” “The Spirit Seance,” “The Mystery of Bagdad,” “The Mystery of the Yogi,’ and ’ a host of others. Evelyn Maxwell, the psychic marvel, will, with Carter, present some remarkable demonstrations ofi '.thought transference and mental telepathy. It is said that these exhibitions are most extraordinary. A special augmented orchestra will provide the incidental music, which is ouo of tho ■ features of the entertainment. The box plan for to-night’s performance is at the To* 1 Cave Confectionery Store, where day sales may also bo obtained. The first matinee will be given on Wednesday.
