Jho question of disqualification of councillors .it Lyttelton, and Haiapoi for supplying goods to peace celebration committees was discussed with the Controller and Auditor-General to-day by a deputation comprising Mr D. .Tones (Kaiapoi). Mr J. M’Combs (Lyttelton) and Mr F. Hobbs (Town Clerk, Lyttelton). A legal opinion from the solieiv , th , e Municipal Association was submitted, which contended that councillors who supplied goods to a comnut to© set up at a public meeting and wludi had its own officials and'’bank account had not contravened section ti r <] l° Corporations Act. J lio tact that the Government subd--lif-ed the council in respect to its contnbution could not affect the question Controller-General informed the deputation that he. had merely drawn attention to what he regarded as n technical breach and he did not-pro-pose to take further action. He agreed to refer the cases to the Solicitor-Gen-oral for his opinion.
