Pack, president of the American Forestry Association of 'Washington, advocates the construction of a road planted with memorial trees, and running from ocean to ocean, as ‘the greatest of nil memorials that could bo erected in honour of the ex-Presi dent llooscvelt. , Since the closing of shops in Christchurch at 5.30 p.m. has become general a number of workers resident in Lyttelton have had to wait three-quarters of an hour for their home-going train which leaves Christchurch at H 15 n m the next nearest tiain te that being'the one which leaves at 5.25 p.m On consideration of this matter, the Shop Assisiuits hunon has communicated with Mr J. M Combs. M.P. f or Lyttelton, to request bun to muko represent Nations to the Government for tiro improvement of the evening train service to Lyttelton. It is stated that the majority of the passengers travelling on the 0,15 p.m, train are shot, assistants and workroom hands, and it is desired that the time of departure of one or other of the two trams be altered for tueir convenience to 5.40 p.m.
