New Brighton is at present entertaining a number of white swans who-m homo is in Christchurch, and thev show no inclination to terminate their stay there. Last Tuesday Mr Wickens, Citv Council head gardener, with others, went to Rat Island, New Brighton, to perform the annual rite of pinioning their wings. Two broods, one of seven and one of five, were captured and dealt with, as also wore four birds eighteen months old, who had escaped the nrcTious ceremony. Five with full powers of flight aio still “at large.” The birth-rate of the swan community is a matter of gratification to those responBible tor their introduction, there now about three dozen of them. An attempt will probably be made to bring the prodigals back home. "
