A lop-sided game was played between E. Harrawny (Dunedin) and IV. Bremnrr (Invercargill) in the first round of to-day’s singles. Up to the ninth head the chances were more or iess even, but in the next, fire heads llnrraway did all the scoring. Bremner had scored one on the next head, but Harrr.v.iy then took up the hoard until ti.e nineteenth ncad. When this head was finished the score stood 20-10 in Harraway s lavour, and the game ended. There was a. dose finish in the singles game between S. Sinclair (Lvttoiton) and G. Amlman (St, Clair) tins morning. On the ninth head Am> man had a lead of six, but Sinclair got. the best of the next three heads, swing a three and two twos. On the oigntecnlh and twentieth heads the scores were ccpial. From the last head Sinclair emerged with a lead of one. Halt way through J. Roach’s singles game with R. W. Kirk (Takaka) the contestants wore fairly equal, but from then on the Shannon the' lead, and scored consistently, finishing with a margin of 6. hj. Mylie (Kaiapoi) had the best of his game with J. Cow (St Albans) most of the way through. His snnerior drawing gave him a lead ot four on the last head.

Allnutt (Christchurch) played a good game against E. H. Henderson (Lyttelton), and only allowed Henderson two twos and five ones, whereas he compiled, a score of twenty, which included a, four, a. three, aiul three twos.

A fairly substantial victory was ga'ncd by W- Eniller (Sydenham) from R. Haworth (Canterbury). Haworth’s scoring hung lire for a. long time in the middle of the game, while .Spiller was rising quickly. After the thirteenth head Haworth made a slow recovery, hut was four down at the end of the game,

GREEN COMPETITION.

A green competition in conunr-lion with the Dominion Howling Tournament was instituted by the Christ church Centre, to stimulate Brcciikeepers to have their greens in the best possible order lor the tournament A number of prominent visiting bowlers wove appointed judges, and a representative of the "Star” was inlormetl to-dny that the. competition has been won by the Cinwood green, wit a the Christchurch green second. Th ■ Linwood greenkoeper is Mr J. Coffer, on ex-railway servant- He was greenkeeper -it. (he Kniapoi green for two or three years, and made a name tor himself there. He was appointed keeper of the Linwood green in April last year, and has wholeheartedly devoted himself to the care of the green, which rands high in the esteem of players.
