He admitted that ho was \ the last person with tho murdered .man, that ho had bought a revolver (and cartridges two days before, and [that when ho was arrested the revolver I was on him and two chambers were | empty, but he declared ho was not guilty. Ho challenged anybody to show [that he had any ill-feeling whatever ogainst tho murdered man; as a matper of fact it was proved in evidence that ho didn’t oven know him. 'When reminded of tho evidence of ope witness who swore that sho had actually •eon him fire the revolver, ho changed (Colour for a moment, but still persisted |*that he was innocent. The evidence (wat *o clear that the Judge summed lip strongly against him, and the Jun jfouild him guilty without leaving the ibox. When ne heard the decision and the Judge was about to sentence him, Jie created a sensation by declaring iii )'• loud voice: “You may sentence im Jf you like, but God knows .1 am nol guilty.
