EXTREME VARIATIONS. The nor’-wester yesterday hardly prepared people tor the cold and wet conditions to-day. A light drizzle sot in this morning, and developed into occasional showers of rain of varyino- heaviness. The day was cold, but not severely so. Tho rain will not bo unwelcome to gardeners, whoso places were becoming rather dry. , mai , n telegraph line between Christchurch and tho North Island was m a leaky condition this morning, and there was a delay of about tw!o hours in sending messages. The line was normal again by about one o’clock, and messages were then going through satisfactorily.
