HEALTH REPORTS.
The following is the bulletin of infectious diseases for the week ended at noon yesterday Grey—Diphtheria 2, measles 1. South Canterbury— Scarlet lever 3, diphtheria 4, tuberculosis 1, influenza ]. Ashburton—Scarlet lover 1. North Canterbury—Scarlet fever 6, diphtheria 9, tuberculosis 3, influenza 11, pneumonia 8. measles 15, puerperal septicsemia 1, lethargic encephalitis 1. Total 67. The bi-weekly bulletin of influenza cases notified up to noon yesterday was as follows: —South Canterbury—One mild ease at Timaru. North Canter-bury—-Five eases, three Christchurch City (one acute, two mild), one Wonfston (mild), one Kaikoura (mild). Other districts—Nil.
Mrs Spurgeon, aunt of the fate Charles Hadclon Spurgeon, celebrated her 100 th birthday at her Anerlcy home last week. She received the following message from the King, which had been dispatched by his Majesty’s private secretary from Balmoral “ The .King is much gratified to learn that you are to-day celebrating your 100 th birthday, and I am commanded to send to you an expression of his Majesty’s congratulations and good wishes.” Despite her failing eyesight, Mrs Spurgeon still follows very closely the doings of the day, and' the strikes and labour troubles are to her a problem which she cannot understand. As she said yesterday, “ There were no unions when 1 was a girl, but there were workers.” She spent much of her earlier life in the country districts around Broxted. Sussex, with an uncle of the late Charles Haddon Spuraeon.
