Play has not yet commenced in earnest <m the Rangiors green, hut the opening of the pennant matches on Saturday, and lh G praiimiuarics for tho club doubles competition having been completed;’ n is exneoted that more enthusiasm will bo shown by the players from this time forward. Twelve pairs have been arranged. for the club doubles, skips ho.vmg .been first selected from amongst tho entrants, and a lead afterwards drawn for each. The competition has to be finished by the end of November, to clear the decks for the championship games. The green this season is playing true and’keen but for come reason the condition of theygrass is far from satisfactory. Warmer weather, with an occasional shower may right this, however. During the last two or three seasons th® club has suffered the loss of some of its prominent skips, notablv T R.-Crcsswell, H. C. Wilson and j! An<ms; This season the familiar figure of "W. Pfford' one of the most skilful of the club’s players! will be,missing frsm tliogreen," ho Imingi left on a two'years’ round the world tour.
