SWIMMING.

EAST CHRISTCHURCH CLUB. " Tho annual meeting of the East Christchurch Amateur Swimming Club was held last evening, the president (Hr E. Gordon) presiding over a good attendance of mem* hers. In moving the adoption ot the annual report and balance-sheet, Hr Sordon made reference'to what ho termed the unsav'oury quarrel that was going ,on at the present time between the Canterbury Centre and the Courlcil of the N.Z.A.S.A. He said he wished, to make it quite clear that in' his opinion, there could not ho two iiing& m Brentford, and that, while -power was given to thd N.ZA.S.A. to govern swimming in the Dominion, it was tho duty of every centre ..ml swimmer to loyally abide by any decisions of that body. He pointed out that tho N.Z.A.S.A. wag just exactly what thp centres made it, and expressed the opinion that the members composing the council •were animated with but one desire—the welfare of swimming in the Dominion. Ho suggested that the Canterbury centre should adopt different methods, and. instead, of being used ns a bear garden, it should be used for the benefit ot tho swimmers of ihe province. He paid a irioutc to the work of Mi Bade,’ who, at a critical, moment, had taken charge of the club’s books and had carried on satisfactorily during the time he had acted as secretary. Referring to tho trouble between tno Canterbury centre and tho Council of the N.Z.A.S.A., Mr D. Coulter denied the statement madel.at a meeting of the Canterbury centre that the East Christchurch Club had supported the centre, and had then “tarred ’it down.” Tho facts- were, he said, that the delegates from the club had supported the centre's -ncti-.n.. but when the matter was oon. sidored by the club, it reversed, their . decision and the delegates resigned. Tho report and balance-sheet were adopted. Officers were elected as follow:-Patron, Dr Sandston; president, Mr H. H., Wauchop; vice-presidents, Messrs C. Bryant, H. H. Berrv,. H. Light-band. H. S. Batchelor, F. ■ Stokes and;'SEN. Robinson; captain, Mr C. Atkinson; vice-captain, Mr G. Cattennole; committee, Messrs Pfankuch, F. Hewarth, Turpin, Johns arid D Coulter ; honorary see' rctary, Mr -Fade; honorary treasurer, Mr p. Kirby; auditor, Mr P. Calvert; delegate td Sports Protection Association, Mr E-nde-delegate to R.L.S.S., Mr F. '■Collins; honorary handicappera, Messrs Fade and Karby; delegates to OantorWury centre, N,Z..A.S A., Messrs V. Atkinson, A. Johni and F. Hewarth. Owing to his ill-health compelling him to leave the Dominion permanently in 'March next, Mr Nordon was unable to accept nomination -a» president.'
