SETTLEMENT OF CLAIMS. t FORTY OUT OF FIFTY-ONE. ? The Christchurch Tramway Board is making good progress in the settlement ; of claims in connection with the Heathj oote tram smash. The board is acting 1 in all cases under the advice of three medical men, as well as with the ' board’s solicitor. An endeavour is being made to treat the claims as generously as possible, and the fact that approximately forty claims out of fiftyone have been settled is evidence that the claimants generally are recognising that the- board is not niggardly. It is anticipated that further settlements will be made, and that only a few ot the remaining cases will require to he adjudicated J upon by the Supremo Court.
