TUNNEL ROAD.
, AN IMMEDIATE SURVEY. / MR ELL’S ACTIVITIES. H. G. Ell, M.P., who haa been, forking for the construction of a tunnel road to Lyttelton, has been informed that' Mr M’Ennis, District Public AVorka Engineer, has received iustnuv tions from the Public Works Department in Wellington to nroceed at once with the survey for a tunnel road through the Port Hills to Lyttelton, and he is to have the work done as soon as possible. The instructions are that the road i&.to bo 32ft wide. Mr Ell and Hr M’Ennis visited Lyttelton , morning } when a preliminary survey of the position was taken. 1 A strong committee has been set up consisting of Messrs Arnaud M’Kellar, ■B- H. Wyler,, F. W. Anderson, Leicester Matson, George Humphreys, 0. M. ' O'lliviier, w. Hayward, Df. Redpath, Royds (Field and R/oyds), W. Nicholls, «T. Mawson Stewart, E. T. Reece, H. I P- Bridge, D. P. Glanville, W. A. Polj son, P. L, Hallonstem, A. F. Carev, (F. O. Shacklock, 0. A. Myhre, C. R. Clark, > E. H. England and 0. H. Ensor. The committee will meet on Friday afternoon to discuss the latest do. velopments.
