. Mr and Airs William Monzics have returned to Aienzies Bay. Mr and Mrs H. Simson (Balclutha) arc staying at the Clarendon. Mr and Mrs Eric Baker (Auckland) went to Akaroa yesterday, after a stay in Christchurch. Mr and Mrs W. Hall find Miss Hall ■have returned to Glenvoy after a week in Christchurch. Mrs William Matson, who has been staying in Christchurch for several weeky intends to return to her home in Timaru next Monday. Aliss Beatrice Wood, who has been xn England for four years, where she Oias been doing V, A.D. work, is expected back in New Zealand next week. rhere passed away on Saturday afternoon a very old resident of Rakaia, xn the person of Mrs Margaret Compton. The deceased, who was in her seventy-first year, had lived in Rakaia lor over forty’years. The funeral took pla'e on Monday afternoon. Mias Maggie Middleton, who went to England with Mrs Inwood and Miss Latter over three years ago, and dirt V.A.B. work there, returned to New Zealand • about six weeks ago. and lias been in Christchurch ever" since, hut has gone to Wellington, where it is the intention of Mrs Inwood and Miss Middleton to open a tea-room in Lambtoix Quay, Wellington. The event of most importance at present amongst tho musical people of Christchurch is the concert to he given next Tuesday evening in the Choral ■Hall by Miss Stella Murray. There ia every indication of a big audience of representative people of ‘Christchurch,, an evidence of the popularity of Miss Mu-'fiy. whoso ambition it'is to go abroad, to further continue her musical studies, A valedictory evening was tendered to Airs Gwatkins, of Hay Street, Bronxley, on Saturday last, the host and hostess being Air and Mrs Wilton. Airs & watkins was the recipient of a handsome Boulton, bowl. Air Hallidav. a neighbour of many .years’ standing, spoxe in the highest terms of the- manikin Ir. esses and .tho-sympathetic heli> that Airs G watkins had rendered to all her neighbours. The secretary of the loca] Red Cross referred to the consistent and conscientious work Airs Gwatkin had done ' during the whom of the war period, and‘wished her happiness in her new home. A vote of thanks to Air and Airs Wilton concluded a very enjoyable evening.
