"WELLINGTON, October 21. Pending the settlement of tho demands recently made by the men at tho Miramar gasworks for increased wages, the men have decided to discontinue working overtime. Thus, with the exception of the stokers on the ordinary shifts no work will I*s done after five o’clock on Saturday afternoons or on -Sundays. If a breakdown of the machinery occurs during this period gas-making may have to cease, as it is imperative that such repairs be done immediately, no matter at what time of day or_ night. If this cannot be done there is a danger of the city gas supply stopping without notice.
