INTERESTING SPEECHES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association, (Received October 6, 11.10 a.m-) SYDNEY, October 6. At the Eight Hour Day banquet, the speeches delivered by the Labour leaders, in eluding Mr Ryan, of Queensland, were mainly attacks on the Nationalist Governments, for restricting the freedom of the people and permitting rampant profiteering. Senator Gardiner announced definitely that the Federal elections would be held on December 13. Mr Storey, a New South Wales Labour leader, stated that the State Nationalists were accumulating a fund r.f £250,000 to fight the Labour Party. Notable among the speakers were Dean Talbot (Anglican) and Father O’Reilly (Catholic), both of whom strongly advocated the need for bettor social conditions and a more equitable share of the fruit of his labour for the workman.
