Walter Prime, eighteen years of ago, was charged that on Juno 4, at Methven, ho stole a lady’s bicycle, the property of Rose llrasill; also 15s, the property of Andrew Henderson, ana £7 3s, tho_ property of John Henderson. Mr K. M. Gresson appeared for the accused. An adjournment for a fortnight was granted on the application of the police, who said that one of their, witnesses was absent. BREACH OF THE PEACE Threatening behaviour in Melrose Street on September 23 led to George Waterman and Walter Prime being charged with causing a breach of the peace. Waterman pleaded guilty, ana Prime, for whom Air K. M. Gresson appeared, not guilty. The police stated that an argument arose over a badge and that one man was knock§a down unconscious. Tho Bench, after remarking that one witness appeared to be hiding something, fined, each man 10s and -4s 6d costs. BROKEN BY-LAWS. Lawrence Nankivell, charged with motor-cycling without lights in Woolston on September 5, said that bis lamp had just gone out when a constable came up. A. fine of 15s ana costs 7s was imposed. Maitland Fletcher, for driving a vehicle without lights, was fined lUs and costs.

Naumai Guinness pleaded guilty to a charge of driving a motor-car at an excessive speed over the Bank of New Zealand crossing on, September 6. The police stated that the proper paco was a walking _ pace. The defendant, who lived in Tiraaru, had narrowly missed, knocking down several pedestrians. Mr 0. Stringer said that his client had just started from the United Service Hotel and drove on her low gear. The Bench inflicted a fine of £1 a,nd costs. A fine of IDs and costs was imposed in the case of Leslie Churchill, charged with driving a motor-cycle at an excessive speed along Sea View Road, New Brighton, on August 17. The police said that Churchill had been going at 3o miles an hour, and appeared to he racing. Defendant had written admitting the offence, and asking that it should be pointed out that he had a wife and seven children. The Bench said that they had to consider the safety of the women and children who used these roads as well as motorists.
