The Canterbury Education Board at, its meeting to-day granted .permission to the folilowing schools to orcot soldiers’ war memorials on the school grounds;-—Esk Valley. Hazeiburu, Omihi, Harewobd and Southbum. ’• Salvation Army lasses are collecting in the streets to-day for Self-Denial Week, which is being observed by the Army in all parts of the Dominion. House to house collecting has been in hand for several weeks, but the actual self-denial of members of the Armv will not begin until Saturday, Octobci 11. It will continue until the following Saturday. It is expected that the result of tho appeal this year will to exceptionally satisfactory.
