DEATH OF MRS A. M. PHILPOTT.
$ Mrs A. M. Philpott, one of the early settlers of Canterbury, died at her residence, 114, Westminster Street, Albans, on Saturday morning, at the age of seventy-three years. She was born at Dorking, Surrey, England, and was a daughter of the late 'Mr William llapley. She arrived at Lyttelton in the Minerva on February 3, 1852, with her parents After spending some time at Wondend, she went to Papanui, taking up her residence, in what then wnknown as the Papanui Bush. Part of the sod-house she lived in still remain almost opposite the. public school ir Winter’s Bead. In 1868, she married the late Air A. M. Philpott, who came in’December , 1850, in the Bandolf, one of the first four ships. After living In Philpott’s Road, Papanui, for some forty years, Airs Philpott took up her residence in Westminster Street- Mr Philpott died on December 20, 1917. Mrs Philpott had thirteen children, and eight of these, all residents of this district, survive her. They are: Mrs Bedwell, Airs Brown, Airs Chapman, Alisa E. Philpott, and Messrs A. E., E., H. M., and H. G- Philpott.
