BRITISH GOVERNMENT TAKES ACTION. LONDON, September 24. Mr C. A. M’Curdy has announced that the new food order limits the gross profits of retailers on fish, fruit and vegetables to 33 1-3 per cent. It is impossible to fix uniform prices for the whole country’, and controlled prices must rapidly ho adjustable to meet sudden fluctuations in cost. '-Therefore the Government is empowering local committees to regulate prices in their own districts.
