AMERICAN STEEL STRIKE.
POSITION -VERY SERIOUS. STRIKE DTE TO STEEL OORPOR ATION. WASHINGTON, September 24. Mr Samuel Gompers, giving evidence before the Senatorial Inter-State Commerce Committee, asserted that tho United States Steel Corporation was guilty of serious crimes against the workers, who had no choice but to strike, since Mr B. H. Gary, chairman of the corporation, would not give them a hearing. NEW YORK, September 24. Although the steel employers assort that tho figures quote 1 by Jlr Foster (secretary of the Steel Unions) in regard to the number of men on strike arc over-large, they admit conditions everywhere are serious. The industry has entered a critical period. Four steel strikers in Cleveland were stabbed in a riot.
