WELCOME HOME SOCIAL.
ST MATTHEW’S BOYS. A very pleasant and sociable evening was spent in tho schoolroom of St Matthew’s, St Albans, when several soldiers, recently returned, and friends were present. Items were contributedby Mr J. H. Cocks, violin solo by Mr Dunn, and part songs by the choir, conducted by Mr Pilgrim. Miss Colter (pianist), and Mr Claydon assisted the choir. An offer of £IOO by Mr Jameson. on condition the parish raised £4OO, towards a Peace memorial, which is to be a stained glass window for the east end of the church, was received with hearty applause. The remainder of the evening was occupied in competitions, supper, and dancing, inelnding a “franchise waltz,” played by Miss Priest. Amongst the returned soldiers present were Messrs L. Hassail, I. M’Leod, Bruce, L. Yates. Nuuan, Fletcher. Ritchie and Carter (2).
