THE COALMINERS.
TO THE EMTOR. Sir, —1 notice a letter signed E. G. East, on the coal question. He. says the miners have done erven more than the mine owners in enlisting for the front, and I cannot allow this statement to go unchallenged. We hear i lot of utter, nonsense talked in New Zealand by Mr Semple and other directaction advocates, about coal barons coal kings, etc. Who are the mine owners in this country?. In almost case pubic companies composed or hundreds of shareholders, many of whom have much less income, than manv coal miners- Now, sir, I object to these mine owners being accused of disloyalty. Personally, lam a shareholder in a coal-mining company, so far with little profit, and being ''over ago I had to rely upon my sons to represent mo, three of whom have done their ]>art in maintaining that liberty which is shared by a good many people who are absolutely disloyal, arid if they were treated as they deserve, would be packed off to try their methods in some other country, where ihey would he more appreciated than they are in New Zealand.—l am, etc., LOYALTY.
