HOCKEY.
THE CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. The fortnightly, mooting of tho Canterbury Hockey Association wag held in the Y.M.C.A. on Monday evening: present—Messrs W. Simpson (chairman), S. G. Holland, Q. Bellamy. F. Crawford, H. Throp, H. Locke. P. Morris, C. Blackwell. N. Toller, W. E. Cook and H. Roger?. Mr Holland reported that all arrangements were in hand for the representative team’s visit to Palmerston North, to plav Man.v watu, and it had been decided to motor from ’Wellington. The report was received. The Otago Hockey Association, wrote asking for arrangements to be made for billeting their team in the event of a visit to Christchurch. The matter was hold over till next meeting. The •Wellington Association telegraphed that a team would be visiting Christchurch on Saturday, August 9. The letter was received. The New Zeeland Hockey Association wrote asking the association’s views regarding an inter-island match this season. It was decided to reply in favour of tho proposal that a match be played at Christchurch. The question of playing a match between a team from H.M.S. New Zealand and a local eleven was discussed and it was decided to ask the Mayor to make provision for tlie matoh. On the motion of the chairman a motion of sympathy was passed with Iho relatives of the late Mr J. Snell. Mr W. E. Cook reported having made arrangem/mta with the Crystal Palace for a picture benefit for the schools competition. After the meeting a telegram was received from the South Canterbury Association stating that tho proposed trip to Christchurch on August ,9 had been cancelled.
