The coal shortage has not affected local sawmilling. The Const mills can Iceep going so long as there is sufficient coal to run steamers aiid-the exiting train service it- not Induced). Timber is still being shipped to Wellington and Lyttelton, and the output would be improved if more, sawmill and bush workers were available. The Mayor has wjred tp Dr Thacker asking him to endeavour to get the Saturday express restored. The present arrangements are quite unsuitable, and are causing the public great inconvenience-
