PAPANUI SCHOOL.

v • MEETING'OP RESIDENTS. A meeting, which was attended by fortyfive Papamii, householders, was held in the Waimairi Council Chamber on Monday night. Tho purpose of tho meeting was to consider the advisability of building a new schoolbo u&o in a more central position. Mr R. Patrick, who presided, said that several of the householders were of opinion that a new site should bo procured, nearer tho village than where the school now was. Mr. W. Ponninghaue moved That it be a recommendation to the board that a now central school bo built in Papanui, and recommend that, an infants’ school bo built at Styx, also that tho Bligh’s Road School be loft an infants’ school.” Mr Bott seconded the motion. Mr W. E. Smith spoke strongly against the motion, stating that a change of, site meant scrapping the bath, which had cost the residents over £3OO. If more land was required for a playground the section north oi the schoolground could be obtainsd at a reasonable price. The following amendment was moved by Mr R. W. Hawke, and seconded by Mr G. Wood:—“ That alt the words after Papanui bo deleted." The amendment was carried. Mr R. W. Hawke moved tbat.it .bo a recommendation to the board that the new school bo erected on the- existing site. This was seconded by Mr. Calder and carried, only two voting against it.
