4__ ( NEW ZEALAND SAMPLE. WORK FOR RETURNED SOLDIERS. [Pm Pmsb Association.] WELLINGTON, June 4. At the sitting of tlio Parliamentary Industries Committee to-day, the evidence of Air A. Harris, M.P. for Waitematiij taken on June 2, was read. Mr Harris produced a sample of tobacco grown ’at Henderson, twelve miles from Auckland, by Frnmick. a Dalmatian, who told him that ho was a very suo-* cessful grower of tobacco in his native country, and had imported the seed from there and planted it at Hendjers son, with highly satisfactory results. Framiclc assured him that the sample of tobacco ho produced was second ; to none in the world, and was grown on what was known ns poor gum land. Noil far from Framick’s place there was a) block belonging to the Crown forming! a gum reserve, and the suggestion had been made that it should be opened for soldiers desirous of going in for tobacco culture. Partially disabled men could carry on the industry with some Government aid.
