SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
— -—♦ The usual monthly meeting of the East Christchurch School Committee was held on Monday evening, The reports received from the heads of 'he various schools stated that chickenpox and the wot weather had affected the attendance. Dr Baker and Nurse Lambio held a medical inspection of tiro Phillipstown School on May 22 and 23, and reports had been forwarded''to tho .parents . of tho children who needed attention. At : the annual meeting of householders in April last a letter was read from the Education Board with reference to providing hot drinks for the children, and a gentleman in the room very generously agreed to give the necessary utensils, Arms, cups, etc., for tin three schools. He had carried out his promise, and a hearty vote of thanks was passed to him at the committee meeting and to the Highlander Milk Company for <i donation of milk cocoa.- With the co-oper-ation of the teachers the children who take their lunches will now ho able to enjoy a , hot drink in the middle of the day. A dis- j mission took place with reference to heat- • ing, and the following motion was carried:— " That in view of the present unsatisfactory method of heating schools, together with tho difficulty of obtaining fuel, and tho everincreasing cost, this committee is of opinion that the Education Board and School Committees' Association should unite in order to move the Government to vote sufficient money to instal up-to-date steam, hot air or electrical heating systems in all schools.” .
